Marta Lopez, CSJ Los Angeles
My name is Marta Lopez I was born in Santa Ana, El Salvador. I'm 47 years old and I come from a family of 7 children.
I discovered the value of education and finished high school at night with hope to continue college. My skills are in communicating with the public as I have worked at Public Health Foundation Enterprise Women, Infant and Children for 14 ½ years. I have learned to be more compassionate and able to listen and understand people's frustrations.
I have also been a volunteer in detention ministry for 14 years. I especially like this ministry because it allows me an opportunity to bring God's message to teenagers who are in need of God's love and compassion without judgment. I also think they are still capable of changing their lives for the better, and I try to make a difference in my community.
My interests are family oriented. My biggest joy is spending time with my mother and other siblings. In addition I have interest in yoga and other relaxation techniques.
Coming to this country was a blessing from God. It helped me to become a more mature and responsible person.
When I look back at my life, I remember that my life had no real meaning. I always felt that I needed something
that will give me a sense of purpose.
When I started going to church, I found the support peace, and love I needed from the people I met at church.
I first met the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet in Los Angeles because the Candidate invited me to her Candidate Reception Ceremony. One of the things that attracted me from the sisters was their charism, and they were so down to earth.
A Sister invited me to the membership days. By attending them, and I got to know the sisters
better.
My hope for the Congregation and Novitiate experience is to continue living the Charism of the Sisters of
St. Joseph, the way it was when the first six Sisters founded the congregation.
