Marianne Comfort, CSJ Carondelet, Albany
I grew up in a suburb of Syracuse, NY, and have lived in the Albany, NY area for 14 years.
Originally a newspaper reporter, I most recently worked as a grant writer at an ecumenical nonprofit organization that operates a food pantry, drop-in center for persons with HIV/AIDS, an inner-city afterschool program and a job information and referral center.
A Sister of St. Joseph whom I knew through my parish asked me out of the blue three years ago if I had ever considered religious life. While the idea wasn't at all on my mind, something prompted me to respond that I ought to look into that possibility further. Her invitation led me to meet many of the Sisters and I felt attracted to their way of life, their ministries, their spirituality, and, most of all, their joyful spirits. It became clear that many earlier life choices had been leading me to this point.
I look forward this year to further discerning the path that God is now directing me toward, to strengthening my prayer life and to deepening my understanding of religious life.
I'm thrilled that the Federation Novitiate experience is in the Boston area, and I will be taking every opportunity to explore the natural, historical and cultural sights - especially via my favorite mode of transportation, my bicycle.
