Centre International St. Joseph is a collaborative project of all the Congregations of Sisters of St. Joseph in the world, having their origins in the Congregation founded in 1650 by Jean Pierre Medaille, SJ, and six women, in Le Puy-en-Velay, France.
Since that time, Congregations based on that foundation and committed to its mission of "total double union, of persons with persons, and persons with God," have spread throughout the world, and now number 14,000 members, in 55 countries.
In this 21st century, recognizing the urgent need for understanding and respect among peoples, cultures and religions, for one another and for the planet, the Sisters of St. Joseph of the world have created Centre International St. Joseph. The mission of the Centre is to promote interaction, collaboration and communion among Sisters, Associates and lay partners in creating an earth community based on the values of right relationship with God, with others, and with the planet.
Springtime in Le Puy
It’s Springtime in LePuy: flowers are coming out of the cold ground, crocuses, daffodils, colorful field flowers. Gardens are being prepared for planting as well as some being seeded. The sun even seems to be shining more often and temperatures are generally staying somewhere in between the forties and fifties. We are also in the Easter season, a time full of promise and hope.
Here at the Centre International St. Joseph that feel of new life is also blooming. We are soon to welcome our first groups of this new season. People/groups are coming from Ontario and Quebec, Canada, from India, Italy, Brazil, Madagascar, Africa, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, and from the US states of Massachusetts, California, Maine, Pennsylvania, naming some of the many places around our beautiful world whom we will welcome. The excitement grows for our internationality as Sisters of St. Joseph, Associates and so many wonderful lay people who work with us, living and sharing our charism and vision. In July, it will also be a joy to welcome the Chambery Congregation’s newer members from four continents as they gather.
New programs are occurring. Sr. Rosemary O’Toole, a Sister of St. Joseph from Ontario, Canada is presenting at two sessions in June her “Rebirthing of Little Design Communities” program and vision. As she aims to “circle the city with love” we can see the potential of circling the world with love! Oh how it needs it! We have Sisters Janet Gagnon from Winslow, Maine (Lyon) and Gloria Philip of Argentina who will “Expand the Global Heart” for us in early August. They will be joined for a session on the New Cosmology and the Charism, via Skype by Carol Zinn, a Sister of St. Joseph from Chestnut Hill, PA. Then again, let the artist in you come forth and enrich your CSJ rootedness experience in LePuy with Sr. Pat St. Louis of Ontario as she incorporates your creative side with a Painting & QiGong Retreat.
A special invitation to Associates and all Lay Partners: You don’t want to miss Sr. Dolores Clerico’s Mission Effectiveness: The Charism Alive week in October.
