Susanne Daniels, CSJ
Wichita, Kansas

I am 46 years old and I love to read, study, and learn. I am open to everything out of the ordinary! I am also a walking enthusiast. I am the third of seven children of Dr. Robert and Norma Daniels. I grew up in valley Center, Kansas and attended St. Jude Elementary in Wichita, where I was first introduced to the Sisters of St. Joseph. After graduating from Bishop Carroll High School in 1976, I attended Marymount College in Salina, Kansas, where I became acquainted with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia.

I transferred to Kansas Newman College in Wichita, where I earned a B.A. in history in 1981. I managed my hometown Pizza Hut and my employees nicknamed me 'Sister Mary Susanne of the Most Holy Dough Roller!

I resigned from Pizza Hut and worked for my father in his medical office. In 1985 I began looking into various religious communities. Neither the time nor the fit seemed right. I was finally convinced that I was not called to be a sister and continued to work, date, and listen for God's calling in my life.

I earned a masters degree in human resource development/organizational development from Friends University in 1999. I took a position in Health Information Management at a medical center in Wichita. I prayed for the patients whose charts I analyzed. In prayer, I again felt the call to deepen my relationship with God and others, and explore the possibility of being a sister. I contacted the Sisters of St. Joseph and after several months of discerning my vocation, I became a candidate in December 2001. I entered the novitiate on January 4, 2003. This time has been both humbling and grace-filled. I now embrace the challenges and opportunities for transformation through the Federation Novitiate.
